Parce qu\u2019ils y d\u00e9nich\u00e8rent sans doute une<br>somptueuse illustration m\u00e9taphorique de leurs principes et<br>efforts respectifs pour acc\u00e9der aux profondeurs, \u00e0 la subtilit\u00e9<br>et l\u2019extension d\u2019une intimit\u00e9 scintillante \u00e0 travers les personnages et mises en sc\u00e8ne de ses toiles confidentielles, mais encore<br>plus la substance m\u00eame de sa peinture, l\u2019\u00e9lection m\u00e9ticuleuse<br>des objets, des formes qui s\u2019y distribuent et les entourent, au<br>sens affectueux du terme, jusqu\u2019au grain de la mati\u00e8re et de la<br>lumi\u00e8re qui les nimbe.<br>La superposition des couleurs et leur rapport \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble<br>dans l\u2019\u00e9nigmatique \u00ab petit pan de mur jaune \u00bb de la Vue de<br>Delft, plus beau tableau du monde selon Proust, pr\u00e9cipite le<br>Bergotte de La Prisonni\u00e8re, mod\u00e8le litt\u00e9raire d\u2019abord v\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9<br>puis d\u00e9pass\u00e9 par le narrateur, vers une sorte d\u2019\u00e9pectase esth\u00e9tique o\u00f9 la mort du personnage se superpose insidieusement \u00e0<br>celle imminente et pressentie de l\u2019auteur.<br>La r\u00e9flexion de Merleau-Ponty aid\u00e9e de Malraux sur \u00ab la<br>\u00ab structure Vermeer \u00bb son \u00ab langage \u00bb, son \u00ab essence \u00bb son \u00ab style \u00bb<br>ou son \u00ab sens \u00bb dans un tableau o\u00f9 \u00ab cent aiguilles sur cent<br>cadrans indiquent la m\u00eame et irrempla\u00e7able d\u00e9viation \u00bb fait<br>\u00e9cho \u00e0 la condamnation d\u2019une inexorable \u00ab errance \u00bb du re-<br>gard d\u00e9busqu\u00e9e par Maldiney dans le spectacle de cette \u0153uvre<br>picturale.<br>Une telle convergence sugg\u00e8re que l\u2019intime inaccessible ne<br>vaut et n\u2019existe vraiment qu\u2019\u00e0 la condition paradoxale d\u2019\u00eatre en<br>partie partag\u00e9.
