Si la <em>Porte<\/em> est l\u2019arche dans laquelle Rodin puisera toute sa vie, une sculpture \u00e9chappe pourtant \u00e0 cette \u0153uvre&nbsp;: le <em>Monument \u00e0 <\/em><em>Balzac<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En&nbsp;1888, la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des gens de lettres (SGDL), dont Zola est le pr\u00e9sident, commande une composition \u00e0 la gloire de Balzac au sculpteur Henri Chapu, mais ce dernier meurt en&nbsp;1891 sans l\u2019avoir achev\u00e9e. La&nbsp;SGDL confie alors \u00e0 Auguste Rodin la r\u00e9alisation du <em>Balzac<\/em>. Mais l\u2019\u0153uvre fait scandale quand elle est expos\u00e9e au Salon national des beaux-arts en&nbsp;1898. Elle est refus\u00e9e pour \u00eatre confi\u00e9e \u00e0 Falgui\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le <em>Monument \u00e0 <\/em><em>Balzac<\/em> se pr\u00e9sente en tout point comme une \u0153uvre hors norme. Le travail est \u00e9norme, la recherche immense, l\u2019ex\u00e9cution magistrale. Rodin est habit\u00e9 d\u2019une n\u00e9cessit\u00e9&nbsp;: atteindre par l\u2019art l\u2019\u00e9vocation transcendante du g\u00e9nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pendant quatre ans, il accumule des documents de toutes sortes, il \u00e9tudie les \u0153uvres existantes consacr\u00e9es \u00e0 Balzac&nbsp;: photographies, peintures, sculptures\u2026 Il enrichit ses recherches. Tout pour le sculpteur est pr\u00e9texte \u00e0 d\u00e9passer les t\u00e2ches d\u2019un travail normal. Sa qu\u00eate est constante&nbsp;: d\u00e9passer la repr\u00e9sentation de l\u2019\u00e9crivain pour en atteindre l\u2019esprit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Par quels moyens propres au volume Rodin parvient-il \u00e0 cr\u00e9er une \u0153uvre qui ouvre les portes de la sculpture moderne&nbsp;?
