Il est inutile de rappeler l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat clinique de ce mode de communication. Mais comme tout syst\u00e8me s\u00e9mantique, l\u2019activit\u00e9 graphique ob\u00e9it \u00e0 des lois de composition dont on peut d\u00e9gager une structure sp\u00e9cifique, une s\u00e9miologie du dessin au sens saussurien du terme. Or l\u2019\u00e9laboration du langage graphique comme celle de la langue parl\u00e9e peut \u00eatre alt\u00e9r\u00e9e. Certains troubles tiennent \u00e0 des anomalies dans l\u2019utilisation des signes. Chez les enfants psychotiques, par exemple, les bizarreries graphiques<br>sont \u00e0 rapprocher des n\u00e9ologismes, des jeux de mots, des d\u00e9formations, des mani\u00e9rismes que l\u2019on observe dans le langage parl\u00e9. D&rsquo;autres trou bl\u00e9s tiennent \u00e0 une d\u00e9ficience de l\u2019\u00e9laboration des signes. Il y a retard dans l\u2019expression graphique comme il existe un retard du langage. L\u2019exemple le plus caract\u00e9ristique est donn\u00e9 par les d\u00e9biles mentaux dont le dessin est pauvre et maladroit Normalement l\u2019enfant enrichit son &lt; vocabulaire de formes > de diff\u00e9rentes mani\u00e8res. Il modifie (accidentellement ou intentionnellement) un sch\u00e8me constitu\u00e9 et cr\u00e9e ainsi un signe graphique nouveau, attach\u00e9 \u00e0 un signifi\u00e9 particulier.
