En f\u00e9vrier 2001, les bouddhas de Bamyan sont d\u00e9truits par les Talibans. La biblioth\u00e8que de Tombouctou, le Crack des chevaliers, Palmyre tomberont \u00e0 leur tour sous les coups des fanatiques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La liste est longue de ces d\u00e9gradations qui ont jalonn\u00e9 l&rsquo;histoire de l&rsquo;art. T\u00e9moignant d&rsquo;un m\u00eame agir destructeur, ces violences nous interrogent sur les rapports passionnels que les hommes entre tiennent avec l&rsquo;art et le beau. L&rsquo;\u00e9vidence singuli\u00e8re de la beaut\u00e9 si impossible \u00e0 d\u00e9montrer interpelle chacun au fond de ses interrogations. Chaque culture en a donn\u00e9 ses mod\u00e8les, tant philosophiques qu&rsquo;esth\u00e9tiques. La vision classique de la beaut\u00e9 li\u00e9e \u00e0 la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 s&rsquo;op pose \u00e0 celle du sublime irrepr\u00e9sentable et de ses abstractions. Si le beau ne cesse d&rsquo;interroger, d&rsquo;\u00e9mouvoir et d&rsquo;ouvrir sur l&rsquo;infini, il provoque aussi ceux qui s&rsquo;acharnent \u00e0 le d\u00e9truire. Comment com prendre le d\u00e9sir de briser, mutiler, incendier ce que les hommes ont cr\u00e9\u00e9 de plus beau ?
